How can an marine animal be tagged?
There are several different ways. It depends on the animal and the type of tag being used. Some have to be surgically implanted while some can be attached to a dorsal fin or a turtle carapace or some other external structure. Almost all methods involve a catch-and-release procedure. Some tags are simple identification markers with individual numbers and contact information for whoever did the tagging, while others may be satellite tracking tags.
Reply:Have you ever seen a fishing show on tv, when it looks as though they stab a fish on the back before releasing it? Well, that is what they are doing when that happens....tagging the fish. Here's some more info. about it.

Reply:The tags we used in freshwater fish were referred to as Floy tags. They are like a strand of spaghetti with a small T anchor at the base. Usually one of the fins gets the tag. Fins are less sensitive and also have a lot fewer blood vessels.
