What does it mean if someone is "tagged by the police?"?

Someone told me the other day that their friend got "tagged by the police." What exactly does this mean?

What does it mean if someone is "tagged by the police?"?
I'm not sure, but I think it means they got caught or busted doing something illegal by the police or it might mean they were interrogated/questioned by the police. It could mean several different things honestly. It could mean he got tasered or maced, received a tether, violated his probation or parole and got caught. It is hard to know what the person meant. ;-)
Reply:They wear a radio TRANSMITTER which is usually attached to their ankle so that if they try to leave their residency( where the RECIEVER is usually placed ) the Authorities will be made aware. Its a kind of 'House Arrest' in your own home - probably better than Jail Eh !?

p.s. If you try to remove or interferr with the 'Tag' you have broke the rules again %26amp; will be sent Jail. They often allow you to leave your premises during the day, but you have to be in by ,lets say, 6pm - a kind of curfew
